Morning routines can feel daunting, but in reality, they can be super simple and an effective way to set the tone for your day. They don’t necessarily need to be filled with a laundry list of things like journaling, meditation and running (although these are great, too!). With a quick google search, you will see countless morning routine ideas. But the truth is, morning routines are personal and yours may look very different from your friends - and that’s ok.

Most importantly, this time should be a form of self-care and a way for you to start your day feeling more centered and present. Once you start implementing these changes into your routine they will become habit forming and second nature. Here is our list of small and effective things you can do each morning to set yourself up for a productive and empowering day:

1. Wake up earlier

Even if it’s just a few minutes each day, set your alarm earlier. It sounds tough, but stay consistent and after a few days, you’ll start to adapt to the new schedule. This extra time will allow you to introduce a morning routine that works for you. So instead of hitting that snooze button, take a deep breath and sit up tall. Count this as your first big win of the day as soon as you get up!

2. Avoid screen time

This one is big. Nowadays, most of us reach for our phones first thing in the morning, which right away introduces overwhelming feelings of stress. So don’t check your phone and avoid any screen time until you’ve finished your morning routine. Digital distractions often force us to react to other people, but we want to start our day present and focused on our own goals.  Pro-tip: Keep your phone in a different room overnight and use a separate alarm clock instead of the one on your phone.

3. Drink a full glass of water

This one seems obvious, but it’s one of the most important things to do before anything else. Fill your glass with water the night before and leave it at your bedside. When your alarm goes off, drink a full glass of water before leaving your bedside. This will help to immediately rehydrate your body and jump start your system. Remember, your mind and body must be aligned to be your best self each day!

4. Make your bed

Ready for a quick and easy confidence boost? Make your bed! This little task will help you feel accomplished and ready to tackle the day ahead. Even if you end up having an off day, making your bed is one thing you can check off your list. Having a tidy and neat space is key to a productive day. And what’s better than crawling into a crisp bed at the end of a long day!

5. Move your body

Not everyone enjoys working out in the morning and that’s OK. You don’t have to run miles or take a spin class to gain the benefits of movement. Engage in any simple movements that feel good to you and get your blood flowing. Start by trying some yoga poses or light stretches. You’ll release endorphins, which will give you an overall feeling of well-being and confidence.

As you can see, you don’t have to overcomplicate your morning routine. Enjoy the time for yourself and make it your own. You deserve it!
