Expert Spotlight: Shanna Tyler
Today's spotlight is all about one of our expert confidence coaches, Shanna Tyler. Shanna is passionate about building a community, practicing what she preaches, and helping others shift their mindsets to find clarity in their lives.
Shanna radiates confidence and let us in on a few of her confidence building secrets. Here’s what she had to say:
What does confidence mean to you?
To me, confidence means having the steadfast belief that something or someone is enough. It means no matter what flaw, mistake, or wrongdoing that the thing or person is enough because they exist.
What do you do each day to improve your confidence?
I meditate on a daily basis before I begin my workday! I've been meditating regularly for the past two years and I've seen such an improvement in the way I show up. Starting off my day with myself has given me the confidence to know that I can put myself before any other responsibility or role that I have. Another thing I do is start my day with gratitude. Gratitude shows me on a daily basis that I am enough and have enough to show up in my fullest potential in all areas of my life - personal and professional.
How has your confidence grown overtime?
Turning 30 recently has done something to me! In my teenage years and early 20s, my confidence was at around 30-50% on any given day. I didn't show up fully in my professional career and always doubted my ability to speak up at meetings, use my talents/skills, ask for raises, etc. Not until I turned 25, did I begin to start routines that developed my confidence. Regular yoga, meditation, journaling, and speaking affirmations really changed my confidence. I started to ask for promotions, begin side-hustles, become confident in my finances, and start to really see my skills enough to start a business. Now that I'm 30, my confidence is at 70% to 90% -- not perfect, but room for growth. I am the boss of my life and can confidently say I'm living my full potential. If it wasn't for all that I've begun practicing... I'm not sure!
What is one mantra or inspirational quote you live by?
What you appreciate appreciates. This quote teaches me to appreciate myself, my relationships, my opportunities, and even the "failures" in life that can teach me valuable lessons.
What is your favorite confidence boosting activity?
An affirmation walk. Whenever I feel full of doubt or like I need a boost of confidence, I'll play 3-5 minute affirmations by coaches and experts. Marigold is in my earbuds for this!
Who inspires you to embody confidence?
Maya Angelou. When I was in high school, a teacher & mentor gifted me her book "Letters to My Daughter". I am always inspired by her ability to be confident in her abilities despite all that she's overcome in her life. Whenever I need a letter from her, I read the book.
