Are you ready to shout at the top of your lungs, goodbye 2020 and hello 2021?! We can all use a fresh start in the new year and what’s a better way to do that then to create goals. Any setbacks from this past year will soon be behind us and now’s the time to forge ahead and accomplish your most desirable goals. Creating goals helps you feel more confident, focused and driven. Here are our top tips to help you confidently set goals and most importantly how to achieve them!

 1. Set goals that motivate and excite you

What are you deeply passionate about? What lights your fire? Get in touch with your most inner desires and choose goals that spark your interest. Goals are very personal. What excites you, may not thrill your friends and family, and that’s OK. The more important they are to you and the more value you have in achieving your goals, the more likely you will accomplish them. Makes sense, right? If you have little interest in the outcome, the chances of you reaching that goal is slim. Accomplishing goals requires time and commitment so don’t choose too many and focus on the ones that are high priority and inspire you the most.

 2. Get specific with your goals

Getting really specific on the goals you want to accomplish helps you achieve them. Break down your bigger life goals into smaller, more tangible goals. Are there certain areas of your life that you want to change? If you want to be more confident, get specific on how you can be more confident. Is it landing a job interview? Is it being in a new relationship? Make it as detailed as possible on what it is that’s going to make you feel confident. By achieving that smaller goal you’re working on the bigger picture goal. And remember, be honest with yourself and be realistic with your goals. Evaluate what’s going on in your life, your free time and set out to achieve goals that are attainable.

 3. Write down your goals and keep your list visible

This one might be the most important. When you physically write things down they become more real and concrete. Get creative with how you write them out and keep your list visible. Next to that goal also write out why it’s valuable to you. Confidence tip - look at your list and read it out loud every morning as a reminder of what you’ve set out to accomplish. Add an affirmation after reading your list to help build a positive mindset. It can be as simple as “I can do this!” or “I am strong!”. Intentionally doing this practice daily will help you feel more confident and reach your goals.

4. Make a time-bound plan and stick with it

In order to achieve your goals you need an action plan. How are you going to reach the finish line? Your action plan should entail the detailed steps you need to take daily in order to accomplish your goals. You need to be your own boss and create structured deadlines so make a timeline and stick with it the best you can. Don’t be afraid to pull out colorful markers and get creative on your calendar and lists! Include as many details as possible, even if they seem minor. There’s no better feeling than crossing things off your list once you’ve accomplished them. Hello, confidence boost!

5. Take action!

The final step is to take action. You must do the work and stay consistent in order to achieve your goals. Some days may be harder than others, but when you stick with it results will follow. Remember, it’s never going to feel like the perfect time to start a new goal. Most likely you won’t feel 100% ready, but the important part is just to begin somewhere. No matter how busy you are, we all make time for the things that are important to us. Make your goals a priority this year and you will be on your way to a more productive, successful and ultimately confident life.
