How to Feel More Confident During the Holidays

The holidays are upon us! This time of year can be a joyous and exciting time for many, but it can also trigger stress and anxiety. Are you hosting the holidays at your home and feeling overwhelmed? Are you feeling anxious about the company holiday party you need to attend? Or maybe the holidays bring out an overall feeling of loneliness for you.

Whatever your situation, here are 5 reminders to help you feel more confident and grounded this holiday season:

1. Let Go of Perfectionism

Let’s be real. Life isn’t perfect and neither are the holidays. We all strive to make everything this time of year spectacular, but that can come with a whole lot of pressure. From the perfectly wrapped gifts to the homemade decadent Christmas cookies, our efforts to create a magical holiday season can take a toll on our mental well-being. So instead of making everything “perfect,” give yourself a break and relax. Don’t worry if everything doesn’t go exactly as you planned. “Good enough” really is good enough!”

2. Choose to Say No

Do you feel obligated to attend every holiday party? Or guilt tripped into going to all the family get togethers? If you answered yes to either, you’re definitely not alone. Sometimes we need our space, especially this time of year. So choose which events you want to go to and don’t be afraid to say no to the ones that aren’t sitting well with you. Setting these boundaries may feel uncomfortable and difficult at first, but it’s a great way to build your confidence and preserve your time and energy!

3. Try Not to Compare Yourself to Others

We all fall into the trap of comparing ourselves to others, especially during this time of year with all the holiday photos and cheer. Everyone has unique ways of celebrating the holidays and there’s really no right or wrong. Social media makes it easy for you to feel down about your own holiday season when comparing yourself to what everyone else is doing. So stop scrolling and focus on your own life and the blessings that surround it. You’ll have a greater appreciation for what you do have and ultimately be happier and more confident.

4. Find the Good in Others

It’s so important to be kind to others, especially during the holidays. Studies have shown that a simple act such as smiling at a stranger can improve your mood. So why not take a couple seconds out of your day to make yourself and someone else feel better? We may not all agree on politics, religion, and everyday issues, but we’re all in this world together and dealing with our own struggles. As difficult as it sometimes can be, find the good in others and empathize with them. Doing so will not only lift your spirits, but those around you too.

5. Prioritize Your Health

As important as it is to be compassionate toward others, it’s just as important to be compassionate with yourself. Even if your days get busier, don’t forget to continue to be in tune with your mental and physical health. Prioritize your “you time” and do more of whatever helps you recharge. Taking this time to self-reflect over the holiday season will help you go into the new year feeling more confident than ever.

Happy Holidays!
