The Best Kept Secrets to Loving Your Body

We as women can be really tough on ourselves, especially when it comes to our bodies. We criticize ourselves and spend countless hours in the mirror dwelling on the areas we want to change. I for one can relate. Growing up, I wasn’t surrounded by the best examples of body positivity. The women in my family were constantly trying to lose weight and used the numbers on the scale to define their self-worth.

Negative body image has been passed down from generation to generation and is something I’ve struggled with, but am working on. I’ve learned that if you workout regularly, feed your body nutritious foods, and shift your mindset you will start to love the body you’re in right now.

Here are some reminders that I like to keep in my back pocket to help me along my journey to building confidence around my body:

  1. Stop comparing yourself to others. Every body is different. Literally.

  2. Your body is capable of doing many things. Embrace it. Celebrate it. Care for it. And most importantly thank it.

  3. Focus on the foods that make you feel healthy and the types of exercises that you enjoy.

  4. Let go of weight loss worries and don’t let the scale steal your happiness.

  5. Stay positive and be grateful for what your body is giving you at that exact moment and don’t think about how it isn’t serving you.

  6. When you look in the mirror, reassure yourself that there is so much more than the little imperfections you see. Stop criticizing yourself and focus on your favorite parts.

  7. Aim to build a stronger, healthier, body not just trying to fit into a cookie cutter mold.

  8. Treat your body how you treat someone you love.

  9. Be an example. Practice positive body image on others and it will help change your own mindset.

  10. Keep things in perspective and know that it’s all about balance. Being at ease and projecting positivity around your body is a process. Remember to take things in stride and know that every day you practice some of these tips is a step in the right direction towards feeling your best.
